I'm joining Bike & Build this summer to help the affordable housing cause. It's a great organization that reaches out to 18-25 year olds and helps them become more aware of their full potential to make a difference.
What we're doing:
We're biking east coast to west coast in a span of approximately two months. Each location we pass by, we'll advocate for the affordable housing cause through media and presentations. We'll have several "build days," which are designated sites where we help construct the houses.
Why it's important:
In Frost's Death of the Hired Man, home is described as "something you somehow haven't to deserve." Bike & Build, the volunteers, and our supporters are all working towards this end goal. Maybe housing will always be a privilege rather than a right, but we're here to try anyway. Home, a place of safety and security, enables us to walk forward with firm footing. For those of us who are fortunate enough to experience this, hopefully you can consider helping others in need.
How to help:
In order to go on this trip I must fundraise a minimum of $4,000 before May 15th, and I need your help in doing so. You don't have to sell your house, skip out on your vacation, or anything drastic. What I'm asking for is any kind of donation whether it be a penny or four-thousand dollars. Every little bit counts. Your donations will go a long way for the people who will be living in those houses. Click here to donate and then look for my name. Feel free to ask me any questions. Finally, here's a video of Bike & Build.
Thanks for listening.
